Title

Physical Aid, -or-Britannia recover'd from a trance;-also, the patriotic courage of Sherry Andrew: & a peep thro' the Frog

Description

In this print, Britannia is terrified, faint and disheveled while she sits on the ground and is supported by Addington and Hawkesbury and defended by Sheridan. The background (right) shows French troops advancing towards the shore, with Napoleon standing on the foremost boat. Clouds of smoke rise from the peace. This print is yet another example of how Gillray weakens the figure of Britannia. Seen as a crippled and deflated figure, she shrieks “Doctors & Ministers of dis grace defend me!”
