The Evolution of Charles James Fox and the bonnet-rouge
This timeline tracks the prints Gillray published of Charles James Fox either wearing, or in association to the bonnet-rouge. As the viewer can see, thirty-eight prints were produced and published before Design for Naval Pillar, which is the last entry of the timeline. This data, along with the evidence of the distribution of Gillray's prints through Hannah Humphrey's print shop, helps prove that a contemporary viewer of Design would have seen the bonnet-rouge near the top of the pillar and immediately connect it to Charles James Fox.
