Dublin Core
Title
Retribution; -tarring and feathering; -or- the patriots revenge
Description
This print shows William Pitt, thickly coated in feathers, standing between Richard Brinsley Sheridan (left) and Charles James Fox (right). Fox is much caricatured, and grinning broadly as he pushed a dripping mop into Pitt’s face. Sheridan raises a huge cap of ‘Libertas’ from which the feathers fall from. This is another example of Gillray connect Fox, and other British authoritative figures, to the French without capping them with the bonnet-rouge.
