Title

The Real Cause of the present High-Price of Provisions, or, a View on the Sea Coast of England, with French Agents, smuggling away Supplies for France

Description

In this print, ‘French Agents’ purchase sheep, cattle and pigs from Charles James Fox wearing a hat with the French tricolored cockade on it. Fox holds a bag of ‘French Gold’ which he pours into the hands of farmer-dressed William Petty. Richard Brinsley Sheridan stands to Fox’s right clutching a money-bag. Petty and Sheridan both wear the bonnet-rouge. This print shows that even in prints where Fox is not wearing the bonnet-rouge, Gillray primarily still connects him to some sort of French activity.
